Friday Photo – The Sydney Tower Eye

Sydney Tower from Darling Harbour

One of the famous photos in my family is of my mother, young and beautiful dining with her best friend, my grandmother, and a family friend in a revolving restaurant in the Sydney Tower.  The photo was taken the day she graduated from medical school.  Last week my mother joined us as we ascended in the lift to the Sydney Tower Eye with my two young sons.  Although we didn’t think my little boys were quite up to dining in the same restaurant, our time spent in the viewing area created a new family memory.  This trip, to the Sydney Tower Eye also provided my mother with a first – the 4 D movie that visitors view prior to ascending to the viewing deck.

While there are many ways to experience the splendor of Sydney, the view from the Tower is gorgeous.  We visited in the early evening and gained the benefit of a glorious sunset.  My two year old summed it up beautifully with his current catchphrase: “Wowee, amazing.”

The Sydney Tower Eye is open 7 days a week 9am -10.30 pm and is located on the corner of Pitt and Market Street, in the Westfield Centre.  A tip – tickets are cheaper if you purchase them online in advance.

  1. What an amazing view. We’ve always baulked at going up the tower whenever we’ve visited Sydney because of the price but the views are making me rethink that! What a great thing to do with your mum since her last visit was such an important memory for her.

We were in Singapore a few years ago when our kids were 1 and 3. We decided to be brave enough to try an expensive revolving restaurant … and funnily enough that was were the kids put on their best behaviour during the entire three week trip. So good we took them back their for their birthday (their birthdays are one day apart and co-coincided with the last two days of our holiday).
