When I started this blog I thought I was the only doctor-mum blogging out there.  This week I’m heading up to Cairns to talk to a group of medical parents about blogging and while doing my research I realised I’m not alone.  I love this for a few reasons.  Firstly, it is further evidence that doctor “mummy bloggers” (forgive my use of that term anyone that find’s it offensive – I don’t) have more to offer than just influence.  In the instance of these blogging mums they bring to the table significant expertise and a lifetime of study to the online health discussion.  It also smashes the myth that all mummy bloggers are stay at home parents.  These ladies are professional women balancing career and motherhood, and they are not afraid to talk about the highs and lows of it all.  Finally, as a doctor-mum trying to find the balance I am all for more of us letting our flag fly high.  The medical fraternity aren’t always kind to working mums and the more of us that are loud and proud as both doctors and parents the better.

There are lots of doctor bloggers out there who are also parents.  In this list I’ve only included doctor-mum bloggers that incorporate parenting into the blog – rather than for example medical education or clinical blogs.  This post is very much a work in progress my friends.  I know there must be other doctor mum blogs hiding out there in the inter web.  Know other Australian doctor-mum bloggers?  Drop me a line as a comment and I’ll add them to this list.

The Wholesome Doctor

My friend Preeya and mother to one of the world’s most gorgeous babies blogs over at The Wholesome Doctor.  Preeya doesn’t have a 6-pack, is not a size zero does eat meat, doesn’t go to the gym daily but is still healthy and shares her tips, experiences and medically evidence based thoughts with her readers.  Check out these articles from The Wholesome Doctor –

Scalpel’s Edge

Surgeon mum Cris is volunteering in Nepal.  At Scalpel’s Edge she shares her experience as a surgeon in a developing country as well as her reflections on raising a family of expats.  I love Cris’ blog because I really, really wish I could be over there with her and reading about her experiences means I can live vicariously a little.

Medical Mummy

Medical Mummy is a blog written by GP mum Naomi who has struggled to find the right work-life balance for her family/herself.  Medical Mummy is a great combo blog – lots of parenting and lots of strong health advice.

Bubs on the Move

Why include my own blog in this list?  Simply because I know search engines will lead people to this article that are Bubs on the Move newbies.  Bubs on the Move is ostensibly a family travel blog written by public health physician and GP Danielle where she also yarns about a bit extra – parenting, working mum issues and whatever takes her fancy.

The Traveling Family Circus

I was a fan of GP Kate’s previous blog My Mother Life so am including her new blog The Traveling Family Circus  in this round up even though it is kind of a “watch this space” blog.   Once the content gets going on this family travel blog, written by a travel health expert it is going to rock.  In the meantime follow her on Instagram at @thetravellingfamilycircus

And remember – this list is a work in progress – don’t forget to let me know of any others!
