Travel quick tip – lagoon pools

Esplanade lagoon pool

The Cairns Esplanade lagoon pool

When I want to book accommodation in a warm location I prioritize hotels with a lagoon pool.  By lagoon pool I mean a pool with sloping edges rather than an abrupt ledge into the water.  These are two of my favourite lagoon pools in Cairns North Queensland. The first is free to the public and located on the Cairns Esplanade, the second is at the gorgeous Palm Cove Peppers Beach Club and Spa.  While these two pools have sandy beaches, a lagoon pool doesn’t need to have sand.  The reason I look for accommodation with a lagoon pool is because while I supervise my children playing in the shallows of the pool, I can relax on a chair or in the shallow water myself.  When we swim in traditional pools with ledge edging there is no relaxation for me.  Instead I end up frantically chasing my toddler as he runs around the pool, and tries to jump in without an adult being ready to catch him.  Lagoon pools also give my four year old the confidence to practice his swimming without his flotation device as he knows he can stand up if need be.  Know any accommodation with gorgeous lagoon pools?  Share them here so I can add them to my list.
