Fellow travellers let’s practice gratitude together.

Sleep deprivation, body image issues and zero personal space. Does any of this sound familiar? These are my major gripes since becoming a mother. On a good day discontent is only a distant whisper that is easily swept away, on a bad day it can permeate every waking minute.   I am convinced though that bad days can be improved and good days enhanced by practicing gratitude.

I am not sure how you came to be reading this blog but the chances are that, like me you have a mountain of blessings to be grateful for. You have access to a computer, for one.

If you are a regular reader, or follower on social media it is likely you have the opportunity to travel with your children. Never, ever forget what an amazing blessing this is. It means you have the financial means to buy tickets and pay for accommodation. It means you can afford to take time off work. It means you live in a country where mobility is not impeded. If, like me, you are a woman it means you reside in a culture and have a partner (or not) that supports you making decisions regarding the mobility of your family.

The peril in being a passionate traveller is an unquenchable thirst for experience – for newness. This is one of the reasons for this short post. To let you know that as a travel blogger, I desire to responsibly experience gratitude for all that I have at home and in my daily routine. I also want to encourage those of you that, like me love travel and new experiences, to do the same.

Be grateful for your food, for your children, for books, for smiles, for kindnesses.   Be grateful for running water, for health care, for toilets that flush.   Be grateful for your senses, your mobility, your freedom.

The wonder of blessings is that they are not earned or deserved. They fall on us like rain and tomorrow we don’t know if there will be a drought.   Try not to dwell on what is missing and what you want to change but on what you have.

And when the blessings of happy travel fall on you and your loved ones be thankful for that too.

Perhaps, by being thankful for what we have our own eyes may be more likely to see what others don’t have, and to share our blessings? I truly hope so.

And now, a few photos of things I am grateful for today.  What are you feeling grateful for?

  1. Love this beautiful reminder of what a privilege it is to experience the world around us and to be able to afford to travel. Thank you for keeping it in the forefront of our minds today.
