Kid friendly accommodation review – Novotel Resort Palm Cove

Situated between Cairns and Port Douglas, Palm Cove has no shortage of accommodation options.  My own approach when choosing accommodation for our family is to lean very much towards venues that make an extra effort to cater to families with kids.  We stayed at the Novotel Resort Palm Cove for a quick weekend getaway and, given the number of people that ask me where to stay when they visit North Queensland a quick summary of the resort is in order.

Families that chose to stay at the Novotel Palm Cove will benefit from:

  • A child friendly pool with waterslide and shallow toddler areas.
  • Second room at 50% off for those traveling with kids
  • A small play area in the lobby.
  • A kids club run by an external operator functions on site from April-October (we didn’t use this facility ourselves).
  • Kids enjoy a free buffet breakfast when dining with an adult.
  • Children’s meals at the restaurant with activity pack provided for kids
  • A small children’s playground.
  • A plush toy for kids on check-in.

Staying at the Novotel Resort Palm Cove does involve a few compromises that are worth mentioning.  I am a big fan of self-contained accommodation and the resort only offers standard hotel rooms (ours was clean and comfortable).  Guests must walk ten minutes to get to the beach – I was not actually bothered by this myself as the walk was attractive and through a mangrove boardwalk.  The gardens and playground were not as well maintained as they should have been, the most disappointing aspect of the resort.

Ultimately, for our family the pros out way the cons at this hotel – the Novotel Resort Palm Cove is a good option for families visiting tropical Queensland and we hope to stay there again in the future.
